Tiny Rituals for a Busy Season: How Small Pauses Can Transform Your December

December often asks more of us than any other month. More commitments. More movement. More emotion. More of everything.

And because of that, this season tends to pull us into a faster rhythm—one that disconnects us from ourselves without us even noticing.

But what if December wasn’t meant to be powered through?
What if it could be experienced one small pause at a time?

This month, I’m turning toward the in-between moments—the tiny rituals that help us reset, breathe, and reconnect before moving into the next thing. I call them Yoga Snacks: nourishing, accessible micro-practices that support your nervous system without requiring a full class or a dedicated yoga space.

Below, I’m sharing simple ways to incorporate these moments of reset into your day, along with a free 10-minute practice for when you have a little more room to rest.

 

Tiny Rituals with Big Impact

We often imagine rest as something that requires a long stretch of uninterrupted time. But most of us don’t get that kind of space in December.
What we do get is transition time—those few seconds or minutes between one activity and the next.

These “in-between” moments are powerful opportunities to reset your body and mind.

Here are a few Yoga Snacks to support you this month:

A simple 4-part breath cycle

Inhale → hold → exhale → hold (5 rounds)
Perfect between meetings, before bed, or anytime your mind feels scattered.

A short walk outside

Even a walk to the mailbox can regulate your nervous system.
Let the cold air meet your face and signal a shift in your energy.

One song, zero multitasking

Close your eyes and let the music carry you.
For 3–4 minutes, do nothing but breathe.

A standing stretch

No choreography. No sequence.
Just shake your hands, roll your shoulders, and let your body release tension.

These micro-practices interrupt overwhelm and bring you back to yourself, one breath at a time.
